I'll take the time to mention a few older dreams now.
I have often dreamed of tornadoes, and it has been my belief that, given natural earth changes and the extent to which we are running the planet into the ground, strange weather will continue to happen. I'm no stranger to tornadoes having grown up in the Dallas, TX. I still recall the bright, alien green sky through the cafeteria windows at my school where we spent many an occasion crouched uncomfortably in the hallway. The most recent tornado dream of mine was one in which I was riding in a friend's car down a road. A large tornado passed by, then not much later a second one came alongside the road, however this one forced us off to the side near a ditch in order to seek coverage, but soon enough it had passed, or at least the dream ended there. Uncannily, the location looked and felt like where I grew up in Dallas. Only a few weeks later at least 13 tornadoes struck Dallas, two of which were rather large, but miraculously there were no serious injuries, mostly due to the warning systems in place and the time of day at which they struck.
In an earlier dream, I was in an urban area. There were many buildings that were devastated, including thick concrete buildings, the cause of which was not readily apparent to me in recall. There was much rubble around and half torn open buildings. It was night time and suddenly a tornado came barreling down the street or alleway, forcing me and friends to seek coverage in some half-remaining 4-5 story buildings.
Recently DARPA has been making headway into robotics and their use in security applications, or in other words how they can be applied on the battlefield, or even at home in terms of controlling populations and dissent. One can find videos of robotic dogs and leopards on the internet which, mounted with battery packs, actually run and traverse ground at impressive speeds. Drones are the next hottest thing in warfare, set to grow at least five-fold by 2016 in Afghanistan and other areas in the middle east, and will likely become more pervasive here in the US in the coming years, while unmanned armored vehicles are taking their place in conflict on the ground. This is, in part, what was meant back when Donald Rumsfeld pushed for a lighter, more efficient military, some years ago, and in the wake of 4 dollar gasoline and the number of battles being fought simultaneously in the world, it makes military sense.
I had a dream a few years ago (yet another relating to the topic of missiles) where US skies rained missiles from a foreign threat. After leaving the city limits and surviving the initial barrage or conflict, I was later placed in house arrest. The only thing guarding myself and the roommates, all of which were equally being held "legally", was one single robot, equipped with cameras, sensors, and other gadgetry. The thing that struck me about this gizmo was the limited intelligence and the ease in which we could evade its monitoring. I eventually left "house arrest" and though I was tailed by a police car, I escaped by "flying", which in my dreams is a frequent form of transportation, and entered a cloud where someone was awaiting me.
This brings me to another topic of my dreams which has to do with martial law.
In yet another dream, this one from 3-4 years ago, individuals in my city were rounded up by the military. Each person was given a color corresponding to their threat level. Green indicated no threat. Yellow indicated a warning, or mild threat status. And red corresponded to a terrorist level threat. I was given the yellow, and along with my peers was placed in the back of a military personnel vehicle for escorting elsewhere.
There is one other dream along this vein I would like to mention. It took place rather recently and in it, once again, martial law had been declared, this time rather "ad hoc". Individuals were asked to stay indoors wherever they were at the time if their names happened to be on a list in their district. I was not on the list, and I recall searching for supplies and wishing I had prepared more in advance, considering there was a run on some of them.
Either these are aspects of imagination, or that which is buried deep within the unconscious that correspond to worrying trends we see increasing around us today, or they are worrying signs themselves that ought to be headed, the sentiment of which is that the American Dream is starting to collapse. Through the course of it, we may see drastic changes brought about by our government. Just take a look at such worrying trends as the Patriot Act, Indefinite Detention, the illegality of protest, and that of all the copyright and censorship legislation of late. We may yet see more draconian measures set forth, or perhaps even revolution, but as usual only time will tell.
